Need to get out a small shallow scratch...

I have a very shallow 3" long scratch on my trunk. I was wondering if anyone can suggest the easiest and safest way to get it out. Thanks.

do you alreay see the basic paint? mostly white. if not just take a paint cleaning paste and detail it carefully. or, with a very calm and precise hand take some color and fill the scratch.

It is not even deep enough to need touch up paint. I have never tried to buff out a scratch before. Once a guy at Dodge worked on a few scratches on my old truck using 0000 steel wool and some kind of liquid compound. It looked brand new when he was done. The scratch is barely through the top coat of paint and you can't even see white. As I said, it is really shallow. I am looking for tips on how to get that out. Thanks for your help.
